According to CENTCOM, the USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy passed through the strait and carried out operations in the Arabian Gulf. The effort is part of a broader campaign to eliminate mines reportedly placed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
“We have initiated the process of creating a new transit route and will soon provide this safe corridor to the maritime industry to support the uninterrupted flow of trade,” said CENTCOM commander Gen. Brad Cooper.
The command also noted that additional US capabilities, including underwater drones, are expected to join the mission in the coming days.
