According to sources who spoke anonymously, early evaluations following the ship’s journey from Asia indicated that the vessel was transporting materials with both civilian and military uses.
The vessel is a small container ship owned by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), a company currently subject to US sanctions.
Tracking information from MarineTraffic shows the ship was intercepted near Iran’s Chabahar port in the Gulf of Oman.
US Central Command stated that the ship’s crew ignored repeated warnings issued over a six-hour period and that the vessel was in breach of a US-imposed blockade.
