Iran’s judiciary is reportedly attempting to justify charges against 13 protesters and opposition figures in order to carry out their execution sentences.
This was stated in a release by Amnesty International.
“The authorities are intensifying arbitrary executions against political opponents and protesters, and are seeking to document the cases of 13 prisoners sentenced to death following torture and unfair trials,” the statement said.
The organization noted that Iranian authorities are using the death penalty as a tool to instill fear in society.
It also emphasized that the growing trend of issuing and carrying out death sentences against political opponents and protesters is part of a systematic policy of intimidation aimed at silencing dissent.
Amnesty International further called on the international community to respond immediately to this trend and not remain indifferent to the fate of those sentenced to death.
