Born in 1997, Irfan Shakurzadeh was a graduate of the Electrical Engineering Faculty at the University of Tabriz. After achieving outstanding academic results, he continued his studies at Iran University of Science and Technology in Tehran, specializing in aerospace engineering and satellite technologies, where he was recognized as one of the distinguished students.

Iran’s judiciary-affiliated Mizan News Agency claimed that Irfan Shakurzadeh had participated in “joint espionage” activities for the United States and Israel and had played a role in the “transfer of classified scientific information.”

However, human rights advocates state that he was arrested by the IRGC intelligence organization in January 2025 and was forced to give a “confession” under torture and severe pressure during approximately nine months in solitary confinement.

According to reports, Irfan Shakurzadeh was engaged in scientific research related to satellite testing programs and satellite attitude and position control systems. His master’s thesis focused on the “relative position control of satellite systems using atmospheric drag.”

The execution of this young talent is being viewed as part of a broader wave of repression launched by the Iranian authorities in recent months against dissidents, protesters, and highly educated young people.
