Habib Mehri, an Azerbaijani Turk activist, has been sentenced to 6 months in prison by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz on charges of “propaganda against the system.”
The Azerbaijani activist was detained after security forces raided his home in Tabriz. According to reports, security officers also confiscated his mobile phone during the search. After being held in temporary detention for a period, he was released on bail while the case proceedings continued.
Habib Mehri had previously also been arrested and convicted for his civic activities, including raising awareness about the situation of Lake Urmia and activities related to Azerbaijan’s Tractor football club matches.
