Iran executed at least 2,159 people in 2025, marking the highest number recorded in the country since 1981.
This was stated in the latest report released by Amnesty International.
“The rise in executions in Iran intensified further following anti-government protests and during the war with Israel and the United States, with the death penalty being used as a tool of political repression and control,” the statement said.
According to Amnesty International’s report, the total number of executions recorded worldwide in 2025 reached at least 2,707 — the highest level since 1981. However, the figures do not include executions carried out in China due to the secrecy surrounding official data.
