The amount of water currently in Lake Urmu (Urmia) has reached 4.1 billion cubic meters, which is several times higher compared to the same period last year.
Local media reported this information.
According to the reports, the lake’s current condition is at its best level compared to the critical situation of the past six years.
Heavy precipitation in recent weeks, melting snow, increased water flow in rivers feeding the lake, and the release of water from dams have been the main factors behind the improvement in the lake’s condition.
Masoud Tajrishi, ecologist and rector of Iran’s Sharif University of Technology, said that the current situation is not related to the lake restoration project, but rather to natural factors, including intensive rainfall.
It should be noted that based on its area, Lake Urmia’s maximum water capacity should be 30 billion cubic meters, while its average water volume should be around 15 billion cubic meters.
