The famous Qara Qishlaq wetland in Binab County, located within the Lake Urmia basin, will be registered under the Ramsar Convention.
Local media reported the news.
“Considering the importance of the plant and animal ecosystem of the Qara Qishlaq wetland, located between the provinces of East and West Azerbaijan, as well as its environmental value, efforts are continuing to register this unique natural monument internationally,” the report said.
Through international registration and membership in the Ramsar Convention, the protection, maintenance, and stabilization of the wetland’s water conditions will be ensured.
It should be noted that the wetland, which covers an area of 22,250 hectares, is known for its biodiversity and for being home to 153 species of birds.
