The Iranian judicial system on Wednesday executed Azerbaijani Turk political prisoner Gulamrza Khani Shakerab from Ardabil on charges of “intelligence cooperation and espionage for Israel.”
According to the Mizan News Agency, the sentence was carried out by hanging after being confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Human rights sources say he was deprived of access to a lawyer of his choice throughout the investigation and trial process, and that the trial was based solely on confessions obtained under pressure.
It should be noted that shortly before his execution, the Fars News Agency reported that he had been abducted from a foreign country and transferred to Iran. The agency did not provide details on the exact time or place of the operation.
