Jalal Dehghani Firouzabadi, secretary of the Islamic Republic’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, told ISNA that current circumstances require Iran to reinforce its authority over the Strait of Hormuz.

He described the waterway as a newly important strategic asset and said it has become one of the key components of Iran’s geopolitical power.

Speaking about the ongoing talks between Tehran and Washington, he said China could act as “the guarantor” of a potential deal and claimed that President Donald Trump prefers reaching an understanding rather than moving toward further confrontation.

He described the negotiations as extremely difficult, with complex and wide-ranging issues under discussion, and stressed that Iran should expand and strengthen the legal team assisting its negotiators.
