Appeals Court upholds prison sentences of more than 12 years in total for three activists of the Azerbaijani National Movement

The East Azerbaijan Court of Appeals has upheld the prison sentences issued against three activists of the Azerbaijani National Movement.

According to a ruling issued by Branch 2 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court, Amin Taqizadeh, Samad Heydari, and Reza Salimi were sentenced to 3 years and 7 months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against internal and external security,” and an additional 8 months in prison for “propaganda against the system.”

According to the report, the three Azerbaijani activists were arrested on January 2, 2025, in Tabriz by security forces of the Intelligence Office. It is reported that their arrest involved the use of force at their workplaces and homes.

After several rounds of interrogation and transfers between the Intelligence Office detention center and Tabriz Prison, they were temporarily released from Tabriz Central Prison on February 6, 2025, on bail of 1 billion tomans.
