A resident of Maku has been arrested after allegedly exposing a meeting between Naci Shari Zindashti and the head of the Maku Free Trade Zone.
An Azerbaijani journalist, Parviz Yari, reported that a citizen from Maku has been temporarily detained and a criminal case has been opened against him. The journalist stated that the individual was arrested for publishing information about the meeting.
In a post on his Instagram account, Parviz Yari claimed that on June 30, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m., the head of the Maku Free Trade Zone, Hossein Gorouji, met with Naci Shari Zindashti—described as the leader of an international drug trafficking network—in the Bazargan area of Maku region.
According to the source, officials of the free trade zone claimed that the meeting was held for “planning to attract foreign investment.”
However, following the publication of the news, a Maku resident was reportedly detained for revealing the information, and legal proceedings were initiated against him.
The journalist questioned why a government official would meet with a figure allegedly linked to an international drug trafficking network and what the purpose of the meeting was. He also noted that if this was about “foreign investment,” why its details were being treated as a security matter.
It is noted that the Maku and Bazargan region is considered one of Iran’s transit routes for drugs heading to Europe.
Naci Shari Zindashti is described in various reports as a figure wanted in Turkey for political assassinations and kidnappings, and allegedly linked to Iran.
The United States and the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on 11 individuals connected to his network in 2023.
The report also claims that this network has been used in various political and security operations inside Iran, contributing to regional instability.
