The decision was made amid growing protests on social media against the selection of a non-local Persian-language singer for the opening of a historical landmark in Azerbaijan.

According to organizers, after reviewing public opinions and reactions, Sallar Aghili’s planned performance was removed from the program. It was also stated that, instead, singers from Tabriz will perform Azerbaijani music at the event.

Tabriz Mayor Yaghoub Hooshyar also told reporters that Shazda Bagh will be inaugurated with the participation of Azerbaijani artists and musical groups.

Shazda Bagh is one of the most magnificent palace complexes in Tabriz, built during the Aq Qoyunlu period and reflecting an important part of Azerbaijani history. It is recorded that some Safavid royal weddings were held there. During the Qajar period, the palace was expanded by Abbas Mirza.

During the Pahlavi era, many Turkic historical monuments were destroyed, and Shazda Bagh was also demolished by Reza Shah along with several other monuments. Nearly 100 years later, this historical heritage has been restored by the Tabriz Municipality.
