Oman: No Transit Charges Planned Under Future Strait of Hormuz Framework

Oman has stated that any future arrangements governing the Strait of Hormuz will not involve fees for vessels passing through the waterway, while expressing support for the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran.

Speaking at a joint meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and U.S. foreign ministers in Bahrain, Oman's foreign minister emphasized the country's responsibility as a coastal state bordering the Strait of Hormuz. He said Oman remains committed to supporting international efforts aimed at safeguarding maritime navigation in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The minister also stressed the importance of restoring unrestricted navigation and ensuring the safe movement of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.

Oman further expressed hope that the U.S.-Iran memorandum would fulfill its intended goals and contribute to greater stability and peace in the region.
