Mojtaba Khamenei pledges worldwide retaliation over father's death

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed that those responsible for the deaths of his father and others killed during the two recent wars will face retaliation, saying the pledge will be fulfilled regardless of who is in power.

"We pledge to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars against the criminal and disgraced killers" Khamenei said, describing revenge as "the demand of our nation" and insisting it would inevitably be carried out.

He warned that those responsible would never enjoy a peaceful end, saying they would "lose any hope of dying peacefully in their own beds."

Khamenei also stressed that the promised retaliation does not depend on him or any current Iranian officials remaining in office.

"Whether we are here or not, this mission will be accomplished," he said, adding that supporters of what he called the cause of freedom around the world would each play a role in carrying it out.

The statement was dated July 9, the day Ali Khamenei was buried in Mashhad, but it was released publicly on Saturday.
