Were Power Plants in Iran Hit? Tehran Official Sparks Questions

"If you knew which of the country's power plants were struck two days ago, you wouldn't be asking about the unannounced power outages in Tehran."

That was the response of Tehran City Council Chairman Mehdi Chamran when journalists asked him about the cause of the capital's recent electricity outages.

Chamran declined to answer follow-up questions about which power plants he was referring to.

His remarks came despite the fact that neither Iranian nor US officials have confirmed any attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure, including power plants.

Meanwhile, Iran's Ministry of Energy had previously announced that temporary restrictions on domestic electricity consumption would be implemented during the hot season to protect the stability and security of the national power grid as demand reaches its annual peak.

Deputy Energy Minister Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi had said that any planned power outages would last no more than two hours and would be carried out according to a pre-announced schedule.

However, after the latest US strikes on Iran began several days ago, electricity disruptions were reported in a number of cities, including Tehran.
