Human rights organizations reported the incident.

According to the reports, the condition of several prisoners has deteriorated since the protest intensified. However, prison authorities have allegedly ordered that they be denied medical treatment.

The hunger strike began after six prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for execution. Five of the six prisoners were subsequently executed.

The protesting inmates say the Iranian government uses executions as a tool of fear and intimidation against prisoners.

Human rights activists also report that several inmates accused of organizing the hunger strike have been beaten and placed in solitary confinement.
