Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned on Thursday that any country providing assistance to the United States could face a "strong response" unless it changes its policies.
In a statement, the IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed for as long as Washington continued what it described as threats against Iran and interference with maritime traffic in the region.
The force also claimed that two oil tankers attempted to pass through what it called an "unsafe southern route" of the strait on Wednesday night under the guidance of US military aircraft. According to the statement, both vessels reversed course after a major fire reportedly broke out on one of the tankers.
The IRGC did not provide any evidence to support its claims.
