Human rights organizations have issued warnings about their cases.

The protesters, whose trials are still ongoing, have been charged with "spreading corruption on earth," "murder," "waging war (against God)," and "acting against the country's national security."

Under Iranian law, these charges can carry the death penalty.

Human rights organizations say the accusations against the detainees are baseless and that they were forced to give confessions under torture.
