"This Pushes Azerbaijan Closer to Israel and Turkey" – Hamzeh Safavi

The relationship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Israel is driven less by an "anti-Iran ideology" than by Baku's efforts to meet its national security and military-technical needs.

This was stated by Hamzeh Rahim Safavi, a lecturer at the University of Tehran and the son of Yahya Rahim Safavi, senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"The more Iran tries to isolate Baku or threaten it with military force, the more Azerbaijan will be pushed toward the Israel–Turkey axis. Turkey's active role in the South Caucasus, especially in the Republic of Azerbaijan after the 44-day war, may be viewed by Iran as an arena of strategic competition. Iran should neutralize this rivalry not through military rhetoric, but by developing trilateral economic and energy projects with Ankara and Baku," he added.
