Another Baha’i in Iran Sentenced to a Long Prison Term

As part of the continuing crackdown on members of the Baha’i faith in Iran, Moin Mohammadi, a resident of Yazd, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The information was reported by human rights organizations.

According to the reports, in addition to the prison sentence, Branch 1 of the Yazd Revolutionary Court also sentenced the Baha’i citizen to 10 years of deprivation of social rights and permanent dismissal from government and public service.

Moin Mohammadi was convicted on charges of "propaganda against the state," "engaging in various missionary activities contrary to the sacred law of Islam through the promotion of the Baha’i faith," and "acting against national security through media and propaganda activities."

It is worth noting that although more than 300,000 Baha’is currently live in Iran, the Iranian Constitution does not officially recognize the Baha’i faith.

Under a decision of Iran’s Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, members of the Baha’i community are regarded as individuals without civil rights in the country.
