Iran’s Kharg oil terminal halted as US blockade disrupts exports – FT

Iran’s crude oil exports appear to have been severely disrupted by the renewed US naval blockade, with no tankers reportedly loading at the country’s main export terminal on Kharg Island for at least a week, the Financial Times reported.

Shipping and satellite data cited by the newspaper indicate that Kharg, which accounts for around 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, has seen no loading activity since July 31. Maritime intelligence firm Windward said all three of the terminal’s loading berths had remained vacant for an extended period.

“The blockade is effective, in the sense that there is not a lot of tanker movement in or out,” Richard Bronze of Energy Aspects told the Financial Times.

The disruption is reportedly one of the longest since the war began and could force Iran to cut oil production if storage facilities approach capacity.

Iran continues to receive revenue from oil cargoes that departed during the ceasefire and are still being delivered to buyers in Asia. However, that source of income could diminish in the coming weeks if exports remain halted.
