New wave of pressure on public catering establishments in Iran: At least three cafes sealed

Pressure on commercial establishments and public spaces continues in Iran. At least three cafes in the cities of Mashhad, Bojnurd, and Birjand have been closed and sealed.

According to the Harana News Agency, a cafe in Mashhad and the “Arkia” cafe-restaurant in Bojnurd have been closed and sealed in recent days.

In addition to issues related to hijab, the Mashhad cafe was reportedly cited for reasons including failing to list matcha drinks on its price list and not having a “Sib-e Salamat” health certificate for some cakes and desserts. No official explanation has so far been provided for the sealing of the “Arkia” cafe.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s state television reported that a cafe in Birjand had been sealed on the orders of the city’s prosecutor, citing “failure to observe mandatory hijab rules” as the reason.

In Tehran, several well-known cafe-restaurants in the area around Sanai and Iranshahr streets have also been closed. The cafes reportedly affected include “Joe Cafe,” “1401,” “Sam Cafe,” “Do Bar,” “Novuk,” “Cafe Man,” and “Theory.”
