India Suspends Pharmaceutical Exports to Iran

India has suspended exports of raw materials used to manufacture medicines to Iran in response to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and not a single shipment has reached Iran during this period.

Iranian Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi said this.

“India has said it will resume sending medicines to Iran on the condition that India-linked vessels are allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” the minister added.

A review of trade data from India’s Ministry of Commerce shows that during the first three months of the war, India exported a total of $130 million worth of goods to Iran, just one-third of the amount recorded during the same period last year.

According to Zafarghandi, the implementation of the “snapback mechanism” concerning Iran has caused serious difficulties with foreign-currency transfers for medicines since mid-2025, while the outbreak of the war has created additional obstacles to the transportation of medicines.
