Iran Army Signals Shift Toward Offensive Doctrine, Including Preemptive Strikes

Iran’s army says it has moved toward a more offensive military doctrine that includes the option of launching preemptive strikes and carrying out retaliatory attacks on a larger scale than the initial assault.

Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia told state-run IRNA that the shift was shaped by lessons from the country’s two recent wars.

He pointed to an Iranian strike on a US base in Jordan as an example of a preemptive operation, warning that any future attack against Iran would trigger an immediate response that could exceed the scale of the original attack.

Akraminia said the military has used the current pause in fighting to repair and upgrade systems damaged during the war, deploy new equipment and revise training programs based on battlefield experience. He added that Tehran is using the ceasefire to strengthen its combat readiness.

He also confirmed the merger of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters with the Armed Forces General Staff, saying the move is intended to streamline command, speed up decision-making and enable faster responses under wartime conditions.
