Netanyahu says Trump supports stronger pressure on Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he discussed three possible approaches toward Iran with US President Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House several weeks ago: reaching a deal, taking military action, or increasing economic pressure.

Netanyahu said he was skeptical that an agreement could be reached with Iran’s leadership and warned that Israel would respond more aggressively than before if Iran launched another attack.

According to Netanyahu, he told Trump that the third option was to “tighten the blockade,” and said Trump strongly endorsed that approach the following day.

Netanyahu explained that the latest US measures were aimed not directly at Iran, but at countries and entities supporting the Islamic Republic.

“What President Trump did yesterday was strengthen the blockade on Iran by increasing pressure on those helping the regime,” Netanyahu said.

He added that “the threat posed by Iran is not over yet” and stressed that Israel remained committed to confronting it.
