In a statement issued on August 25, Healey said Britain has imposed more than 240 sanctions on Iran since the government took office, targeting actions that London considers threats to the security of the UK and its citizens.
He added that Britain remains committed to preventing Iran from using the global economy or the UK’s financial system to support its nuclear program and activities that destabilize the region.
Healey expressed support for US diplomatic efforts while welcoming increased economic pressure on Tehran, including Britain’s participation in the US-led “Operation Economic Outcast.”
Healey concluded by urging Tehran to end destabilizing activities across the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, and return to meaningful diplomatic negotiations.
