The Tabriz Civil Registration Office refuses to issue a document to a 7-month-old baby because of the name "Barkay" chosen by his parents.
The Civil Registry Office states that the name is not on the list of accepted official names, Barkay's parents reported.
Although the family appealed to the court through a lawyer to resolve the problem, the court ruled in favor of the civil registration office.
It should be noted that the Iranian citizenship registration office's failure to issue identity cards to Azerbaijani children with Turkish names is due to the fact that these names are not on the list of approved Iranian names.
According to the registry office, names not on the list are considered foreign names and conflict with Iranian identity.
