Prisoners in Iran Resume Hunger Strike

Thousands of prisoners held in 62 prisons across Iran resumed a hunger strike on Monday morning, demanding an end to executions, human rights organizations have reported.

According to the reports, the prisoners launched the protest to draw the attention of the international community and human rights organizations to the increasing number of executions in the country.

The hunger strike, now being held for the 136th time, takes place for 24 hours beginning on the second day of each week.

According to reports by human rights organizations, nearly 1,000 prisoners have been executed in Iran so far this year, with the identities of more than 400 of them having been established.
