Yemen’s internationally recognized government has rejected any attempt to use the country as leverage in Iran’s regional negotiations, saying Yemen’s future must be determined by Yemenis through their own political and national institutions.
oreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba said Yemen should not be treated as compensation for losses elsewhere, a venue for settling regional disputes, or a bargaining tool for strengthening any power’s negotiating position.
She stressed that restoring government control over Yemen’s coastline, ports and islands is crucial for regional security and freedom of navigation, particularly in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb. According to al-Zouba, Houthi expansion along Yemen’s western coast poses a serious threat to maritime traffic.
“We reject Iranian support that enhances Houthi capabilities and allows Yemen’s geography to be used against neighboring states and vital shipping routes,” she said.
Al-Zouba added that Yemen’s crisis began before the US-Iran war, but the broader regional conflict has further complicated the situation.
