Parts of the historic Red Bridge in Ardabil Province were damaged some time ago and have yet to be restored, according to local cultural activists.
They said the damage occurred during illegal excavations carried out by looters searching for historical artifacts, while the provincial Cultural Heritage authorities and other relevant agencies have reportedly failed to take action.
The Red Bridge, also known as Aghlaghan Bridge, is an architectural monument dating to the Safavid period. It was built over the Baliqli River, about 7 kilometers from the Ardabil–Namin road.
