US Report: Iran’s IRGC Recruits Children as Young as 12 for Security Missions

Iran ranks at the lowest level in efforts to combat human trafficking, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recruits children as young as 12, according to a new US State Department report.

The findings were published in the department’s 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report.

The report once again placed the Islamic Republic in Tier 3, the lowest classification, stating that Tehran does not fully meet the minimum standards for combating human trafficking and has not made significant efforts to improve the situation.

Iranian authorities were also accused of committing or tolerating human trafficking-related offenses and continuing a pattern of recruiting and using children in armed groups and institutions. According to the report, the IRGC and the Basij recruited Iranian children as well as Afghan, Pakistani and Syrian migrants.

The US State Department further stated that, as part of a recruitment campaign launched earlier this year, the IRGC set the minimum age at 12 for certain activities, including security-related missions.
