Mustafa Mirsalim, a member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, has stated that Iranian oil does not belong to the people but is considered anfal — property belonging to God and the Prophet.

Speaking to Khabarfori, Mirsalim criticized officials who describe oil as a public asset, saying: “It is nonsense for officials to say that oil belongs to the people. Who said oil is the people’s property? Oil is among the anfal and belongs to God and the Messenger.”

He also said that gasoline prices in Iran are extremely low, claiming that fuel is provided to the public at virtually no cost. Referring to the expenses involved in supplying fuel, Mirsalim said the government covers part of these costs through the general state budget.

The remarks come as oil and revenue from its sales remain among Iran’s most important economic resources. The management of this national wealth and the distribution of the revenue it generates are central issues in Iran’s economic and political debates.
