Saudi Arabia has accused Iran of encouraging a renewed wave of Houthi attacks against the kingdom, alleging that Tehran continues to provide the group with weapons, training, and other forms of support.

Speaking during a virtual briefing with journalists on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister for Public Diplomacy Raid bin Khalid Qarmali said Iran remained actively involved in supporting the Houthi movement and escalating regional hostilities.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Qarmali stated that Iran was continuing to arm, train, and support the Houthis in violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. He added that Riyadh believed the latest increase in attacks had been encouraged directly by Tehran.

Despite the growing tensions, Qarmali said communication between Saudi Arabia and Iran remained ongoing. “We continue direct contact with Iran,” he said.

However, the Saudi official argued that there were no current signs that Iranian authorities were willing to make the concessions necessary to help resolve the crisis.

Qarmali also accused the Houthis of rejecting a Saudi initiative to arrange high-level talks in Oman. He said Riyadh had proposed a meeting in Muscat at the beginning of the latest escalation in an effort to engage the group in dialogue.

The proposal was declined, according to the Saudi official, who described the invitation as the last direct communication between the two sides several weeks ago.
