Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has criticized his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, accusing Tehran of double standards after the Iranian diplomat condemned French President Emmanuel Macron’s response to unrest in France.
In a post on X, Sa’ar said Iran had no grounds to lecture France on freedom of assembly while suppressing demonstrations at home.
“Iran’s FM cheers on unrest in France. A regime that executes protesters at home and exports terror abroad is now lecturing Paris on ‘freedom of assembly,’” Sa’ar wrote.
He also referred to the deadly crackdown on protests in Iran in January, alleging that thousands of Iranian citizens had been killed by the authorities. Sa’ar added that repression, violence, and executions continued in the country.
