Anti-Azerbaijan Protest Held in Tehran

A protest targeting the Republic of Azerbaijan was held on Sunday outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran, reportedly organized by institutions affiliated with the Iranian government.

The event was reported by media outlets close to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and on social media channels.

A group of students affiliated with circles close to the Iranian government gathered, claiming to oppose the uniform dress code for students in Azerbaijan’s public general education institutions. However, the slogans displayed on their placards appeared to go beyond the issue of hijab, taking aim at Azerbaijan’s domestic and foreign policies.

Footage from the demonstration and the slogans chanted by participants have raised serious questions about the organizers’ political objectives and their apparent attempt to use an education-related issue as a means of exerting pressure on the Azerbaijani government.

For decades, Iran has enforced compulsory dress regulations within its own society, facing widespread resistance from women and younger generations. Nevertheless, media outlets affiliated with the Iranian government are now reportedly mobilizing groups outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in an apparent attempt to influence the domestic policies of an independent country.

The presence of anti-Israel slogans and harsh political rhetoric directed against the Azerbaijani government also raises a fundamental question: Is the demonstration genuinely about students’ rights, or is the hijab issue merely being used as a pretext to advance Iran’s political agenda and propaganda against Azerbaijan?

Religious issues should not be used as instruments of political pressure against neighboring countries. Organizing demonstrations around such issues, particularly when accompanied by provocative slogans and political attacks, does not justify interference in another country’s internal affairs.

Azerbaijan is an independent state, and its education system and school regulations are determined under its own laws and by its relevant institutions. No government has the right to dictate another country’s domestic policies or seek to impose its political preferences on its society through organized protests and propaganda.
