Amnesty International has expressed concern over the cases of 20 more protesters detained in connection with the nationwide protests that took place in Iran in January 2026.
The organization raised the alarm in a statement, warning that the protesters’ death sentences had been upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and could be carried out at any time.
Amnesty International stressed that the sentences followed proceedings marked by serious violations of fair trial standards. It also highlighted cases in which confessions allegedly obtained under torture were used as evidence during court proceedings.
