Renewed US-Israeli attacks on Iran remain possible, FT reports

A fresh round of US and Israeli strikes against Iran in the coming weeks remains a possibility, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing a person familiar with Israeli military planning.

According to the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military earlier this month to prepare for a large-scale offensive against Iran, potentially targeting nuclear facilities. The FT cited three people familiar with the plans.

The proposed operation was expected to last several days and was planned for the weekend of October 10. However, it was shelved after US President Donald Trump opposed resuming hostilities ahead of the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3, the report said.

“There will either be a deal or an attack,” one person familiar with the planning told the newspaper.

White House deputy spokesperson Anna Kelly told the FT that Washington would not launch an attack on Iran before the midterm elections.

Kelly also said that US efforts to blockade Iranian ports and facilitate oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz were achieving their intended results.
