Iranian border guards to Azerbaijani drivers: "If you don't like it, use the Trump Route"

Iranian customs officials have reportedly been preventing truck drivers from Nakhchivan to cross the border, forcing them to wait for days without food or water. These incidents have occurred since the peace declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia on August 8.

According to the local newspaper Nakhchivan Daily, Iranian officials have begun to openly show hostility to drivers transporting goods from Nakhchivan to Baku. Drivers say they are forced to wait for days in deserted and inaccessible areas far from the Bilasuvar customs checkpoint. There is no shelter, food, drinking water, or toilets. Drivers have to walk for kilometers to meet their most basic needs.

According to the drivers, Iranian customs officers openly state their reasons and say that these delays are a response to the peace agreement signed in Washington, reached with American mediation. According to them, border guards often use the phrase “If you don’t like it, use the Trump Route.”
