Mai Sato, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, issued the statement.

The statement expressed concern about Narges Mohammadi's health and that of other female prisoners and human rights defenders detained alongside her, as well as the violation of their right to be examined and treated.

Mai Sato said the political prisoner's health was deteriorating, and they were concerned about her condition and four other South Azerbaijani imprisoned activists.

"We demand that the Iranian government immediately release Narges Mohammadi and create conditions for other prisoners to receive medical care," the statement read.

It should be noted that Narges Mohammadi, born in Zanjan, Southern Azerbaijan, and winner of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, has been sentenced to 12 years and 3 months in prison and 154 lashes.
