According to Majid Rostgari, General Director of the West Azerbaijan Regional Water Company, Lake Urmia was 1835 square kilometers three years ago and has since grown to 870 square kilometers.

Majid Rastgari stated that "in the last water year, the reported volume of discharge into Lake Urmia was 467 million cubic meters, but much more than this amount was discharged into the lake."

He added that, according to the most recent measurements, the lake's current level is 1270 meters and 10 centimeters, with 1 billion 170 million cubic meters of water in 870 square kilometers of Lake Urmia.

According to environmental experts, the drying up of Lake Urmia has endangered the lives of over 14 million regional residents and will force them to migrate.

The occurrence of salt storms caused by Lake Urmia's drying up and the activation of salt-dust centers is not only a threat to Azerbaijani lives, but it is also regarded as an international ecological threat.
