Insurance coverage for construction workers canceled in West Azerbaijan

The insurance coverage of a number of construction workers has been canceled in Iran’s West Azerbaijan province. The information was reported by labor movement activist Danesh Esmaili.

According to Esmaili, in some cases, workers’ insurance coverage was canceled without giving them sufficient opportunity to prove their employment status and submit the necessary documents.

Highlighting the nature of construction work and the lack of stable employment among construction workers, Esmaili called for a comprehensive review of each worker’s employment status before insurance coverage is canceled and for workers to be given sufficient time and opportunity to provide the required documentation.

The labor movement activist also warned that the cancellation of insurance coverage could have serious medical and livelihood consequences for workers employed in high-risk occupations, particularly in the event of workplace accidents.

He called on the West Azerbaijan Social Security Administration to provide transparent information on the number of canceled insurance policies and how the status of the affected workers will be reviewed.
