The report indicates that the lake’s water level has reached 1,270.63 meters, while its surface area has expanded to 1,945 square kilometers.

Meanwhile, Ali Rabiei, an adviser to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, said the crisis facing Lake Urmia was the result of decades of mismanagement of water resources. Rabiei made the remarks during a visit to the region.

“The crisis, which began years ago, stems not only from the mismanagement of water resources but also from a failure to adequately account for agricultural practices, local livelihoods and population growth,” he said.

Rabiei warned that the continued drying of Lake Urmia could have far-reaching consequences for the surrounding region.
