Additional report on the January 8 protests in various cities of South Azerbaijan

Field reports indicate that protest rallies continued and expanded in several cities in South Azerbaijan on Thursday, January 8.

According to these reports, as the nationwide protests continued, large-scale citizen participation, protest slogans, and clashes with security forces were observed in several cities of South Azerbaijan.

Protest rallies have been held in various parts of the city in Ardabil since the early hours of Thursday, January 8. Yahyavi, Sarcheshmeh, Main Road Crossroads, and Shariati Streets are reported to be the main centers of the protests in the city.

According to these reports, security forces used tear gas to disperse the crowds, and in some places the protests turned into direct clashes.

Local sources reported that a vehicle of the repressive forces was burned and slogans such as "Death to the Dictator" were chanted during the protests.

As the situation became tense, protesters in Ardabil openly expressed their political and national demands by chanting slogans such as "Freedom, Justice, National State".

The protesters rejected any form of totalitarian oppression and fascism, including the Pahlavi-Iranshahri movement.

Merchants in Urmia closed their shops in protest on Thursday afternoon. Anti-totalitarian slogans such as "Azerbaijan is honorable, Pahlavi is dishonorable" were also chanted during the protests.

People were reported to have joined the protests also in the city of Khoy.

Protests in Maragha included slogans such as "Death to the dictator."

Protests in Tabriz included slogans such as "Freedom, Justice, National State," "Azerbaijan is honorable, Pahlavi is dishonorable," "Azerbaijan is honorable, Basij is dishonorable," and "Death to the dictator."

Reports from the southern Azerbaijani city of Qurveh said that regime forces opened fire on demonstrators with military weapons.

In Bijar, local sources report that protesters burned the governor's building.

Despite security measures and repression against protesters by the Islamic Republic, protests continue in various cities of South Azerbaijan.
