Speaking on Wednesday, June 4, at the anniversary ceremony marking the death of Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, Khamenei strongly criticized Washington’s stance on Iran’s nuclear program, saying: “Our response to America’s nonsense is clear: they can’t do a damn thing about this.”

Highlighting the central role of enrichment in Iran’s nuclear program, he added: “Uranium enrichment is the key issue in the nuclear matter, and that’s exactly what the enemies have focused on.” He described the U.S. proposal, mediated by Oman, as “completely against our slogan ‘We Can’.”

Addressing U.S. officials, the Supreme Leader said: “Why do you interfere in whether Iran should enrich uranium or not? What business is it of yours? Who do you think you are?”

He also claimed that the main goal of U.S. pressure on Iran’s nuclear program is to “prevent the Islamic Republic’s scientific independence” and make it dependent on the West. According to Khamenei, “America’s main demand is that Iran should not have a nuclear industry and become reliant on the U.S.”

These remarks come as negotiations between Iran and the United States, with Oman acting as a mediator, continue over the future of Tehran’s nuclear program.

Western countries have expressed concern that Iran may be approaching the threshold of producing a nuclear weapon. However, Tehran has consistently maintained that its program is purely peaceful.

Washington has proposed that Iran could continue its peaceful nuclear activities by transferring its enriched uranium stockpiles to another country and halting enrichment within Iranian territory.
