Iran's chairmanship of the disarmament conference sparked outrage

On March 18, Iran took over as chairman of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament from Indonesia, causing outrage among human rights activists and US lawmakers.

They described Iran's chairmanship of the Conference as an "insult to the conscience of the world community," resulting in panic, conflict, and the spread of weapons around the world.

Anna Paulina Luna, a member of the United States House of Representatives, expressed her thoughts on this.

"Why does the UN Conference on Disarmament think that it’s a good idea to allow the Islamic Republic of Iran to preside over negotiations on arms control and disarmament agreements? The Islamic regime’s history and continuous breaches of nuclear agreements go against the very purpose of the conference. It’s disgusting that the United Nations is continuing to legitimize Mollah’s murderous regime," wrote Anna Paulina Luna in her “X” account.

It should be noted that the UN Disarmament Conference began in Geneva at the end of January. The conference will last until the middle of September.

During this period, the chairmanship of the conference is periodically transferred to the member countries in alphabetical order. Each member chairs the conference for 4 weeks.
