On April 22, the US State Department released its annual human rights report for Iran.
According to the report, in 2023, the Iranian government's violence against citizens increased, as did cases of violations of Iranians' fundamental rights.
Furthermore, it was claimed that national and religious minorities' rights had been violated, as well as increased pressure on women, activists, journalists, and teachers.
The US State Department, which reported an increase in the number of executions in the country, stated that 798 people were executed in Iranian prisons in 2023, a 37% increase from 2022.
The US State Department report also included information about the discriminatory policy against Azerbaijanis.
"Even though ethnic Azerbaijanis, who account for approximately 24% of the population, or more than 18 million, are more integrated into government and society than other ethnic minority groups, local activists and organizers are suppressed."
The government was accused of persecuting and discriminating against Azerbaijani activists and organizers, as well as preventing some parents from giving their children Turkish names.
Iran and Russia are seeking new approaches to trade settlements.
