South Azerbaijani doctor was fired from his position

Doctor Ahmed Baybwerdi was fired for exposing pollution and environmental destruction in South Azerbaijan.

Doctor Baybwerdi was the chairman of the East Azerbaijan Province's Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center before being dismissed.

He is one of the world’s renowned scientists and is considered an activist for environmental issues of the province.

Doctor Baybwerdi has previously shared information about Armenia's pollution of the Araz River, the drying of Lake Urmia, the destruction of Azerbaijani forests, and warned on the "X" social network about state-sponsored environmental destruction.

"To those whose hearts beat for Azerbaijan in the city and province of Tabriz! The properties and areas of the city's University of Medical Sciences are converted into commercial areas and sold, among which the first-class fertile area known as "Khalatpushan" has been allocated for housing construction. We must be concerned about this issue."

The doctor also wrote on the "X" account two days ago.

"The unique and fertile region of Varzigan has been covered with pollutants as a result of the plant's activity, and the condition of Ilignachay in the Varzigan region is deplorable due to the pollution caused by the activities of the Sungun Miz Plant. It is critical for officials to intervene and take action on this."

Cultural activists claimed that his sudden and overnight dismissal from his position was due to his revelations about Azerbaijan's environment.
