In recent weeks, a group of mountaineers and national movement activists from various cities in Azerbaijan have climbed the 4,811-meter Savalan peak and raised posters on the topic of saving Lake Urmia, expressing their protest against the country's incompetent officials and administrators, and calling on the Azerbaijani people to support protests against the deliberate drying up of Lake Urmia.

According to the “Abbas Lisani Information Page”, national movement activists in the city of Ardabil raised a banner on the Savalan peak with the slogans “My name is Sea, bu I have no water” in protest against the critical and deadly state of Lake Urmia.

Azerbaijani civil activists believe that the Islamic Republic of Iran which relying on racist, anti-Turkish and centrist policies, is destroying not only Lake Urmia, but also other places, natural resources and ancient monuments of Azerbaijan under various pretexts.

According to environmental experts, the drying up of Lake Urmia will endanger the lives of more than 14 million residents of this area and will lead to the forced displacement of residents of the region.

The occurrence of salt storms after the drying up of the lake is not only a problem for the population of the region and Iran, but also an international ecological threat. According to environmental experts, active dust and salt storms on the shores of Lake Urmia can affect a distance of up to 500 kilometers.
