US Blockade Squeezes Iran’s Oil Industry Amid Strait of Hormuz Standoff

Iran’s vital oil sector is coming under growing pressure as a US naval blockade limits its ability to export crude, according to an Associated Press report.

Despite Iran’s own disruption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the country is now struggling to move its oil abroad. With tankers unable to depart and storage facilities filling up, experts warn Iran may soon be forced to cut or even halt production at some wells—potentially within weeks.

Before the conflict, Iran was producing more than 3 million barrels of oil per day, but the blockade has sharply reduced exports, depriving the economy of critical revenue at a time when it is already weakened by war, unrest, and long-standing sanctions.

The situation is also having global consequences. With fewer shipments leaving the region and shipping routes disrupted, energy markets are tightening, contributing to rising fuel prices and shortages, including jet fuel, in some areas.

Analysts say the crisis could have long-term effects on Iran’s aging oil infrastructure, as shutting down wells risks permanent damage and costly restarts. At the same time, the standoff between Washington and Tehran continues to strain global energy supplies and heighten economic uncertainty worldwide.
